The Salem City Pool will open Saturday for the summer season.
Hours are 12-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1-6 p.m. Sunday.
An open pool party is planned noon-7 p.m. Monday (Memorial Day). Entry fee is by donation only. Games, lifeguard competitions, meet the staff and an auction for an “ice cream date” with a lifeguard is planned.
The pool is under new management, Chrissy Decker and new parks and recreation director, Tye Lydon, who began with the City of Salem in January.
Several classes and events are planned throughout the summer:
• Water Aerobics: Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 11 a.m.-noon
• Senior Swim: Tuesday-Thursday: 11 a.m.-noon
• Pawpooliza (Bring your dog to the pool): 1-3 p.m. Aug. 14
There are three sessions of swimming lessons, with six different levels offered.
Swimming lessons:
• Session 1: June 6-17
• Session 2: July 11-22
• Session 3: Aug. 1-12 (Diving for levels 5-6)
Levels include, Level 1: Water exploration 9-9:30 a.m.; Level 2: Primary skills 10:30-11 a.m.; Level 3: Stroke readiness 9-9:30 a.m.; Level 4: Stroke development 9:45-10:15 a.m.; Level 5: Stroke refinement 10:15-11 a.m.; Level 6: Skill proficiency 10:15-11 a.m.
Cost is $20 per participant.
