Carrie Sutterfield, economic development director for the city of Salem, was guest speaker at the Salem Rotary recently. Sutterfield was approved to be hired during a closed session of the City of Salem Board of Aldermen April 10.
Sutterfield shared in an interview with The Salem News that this is her return to Salem after approximately 10 years. Her experience includes working in economic development at her previous residence in Kansas. Sutterfield expressed joy on her return to the community. She and her husband were both born and raised in Salem for 38 years. Her family was relocated with her husband’s company, working with wind turbines.
After a recent promotion where her husband can work remotely, and most of their children have flown the coop, they knew they wanted to return home to Salem.
Sutterfield says a lot has changed in the 10 years that she has been away, including the renovation of the downtown area. Some businesses have gone, and new businesses have moved in. She says she is excited to work on getting new businesses moved into Salem and especially to get business expansion started in the industrial park.
As for identified goals going into her role, Sutterfield hopes to tackle the housing shortage facing the community and continue strengthening the current infrastructure.
Carrie can be contacted at the city at 573-729-2428 or by email at economic@salemmo.com. Thanks to Rotarian Catherine Wynn, executive director of the chamber, for hosting our speaker.
