October is Apple Month, Carmel Month, Dessert Month, Pasta Month, Pizza Month, Sausage Month, Seafood Month, and Vegetarian Month. (Just to name a few.) Have you visited the cookbooks lately? This is an ideal month to explore fun new recipes!
Face-painting and costume-making resources are available for the young and young-at-heart. Pumpkin carving and seasonal craft ideas abound as well. Librarians are happy to assist you in finding books that inspire your creativity.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Your library has multiple resources about detection and treatment as well as stories of survivors. Make time to look at the display of materials and information near the library's entrance. Enter the drawing for a t-shirt or keychain!
Send a Letter to a Soldier
The library's writing station has been transformed so that patrons may send letters to American soldiers stationed overseas. Paper, pencils, and crayons are on top of the "mailbox" located in the Children's Section. Write your letter at the library or take it home and return it. Letters need to be at the library no later than Monday, Nov. 22. The library will mail letters so that these brave men and women will receive them in time for Christmas. Thank you to the American Legion Walker-Roney Post 99 Ladies Auxiliary for assisting with postage for this project.
We're hosting a sleepover for BEARS! Librarians believe the bears might enjoy a big party before they settle in to hibernate all winter. Your help is needed though! Please pick up a paper bear at the library. Take the bear home to help it get ready for the sleepover. It will need a smile and pajamas. You may draw these or paste them using paper, fabric, or other craft supplies. Use your imagination! You'll also fill out a Bear Care Card so that librarians can get to know your bear. Return your bear and the Bear Care Card to the library by Monday, Nov. 1. Then, tune in to the library's Facebook page each Wednesday night during November for bear updates! Bears and a special surprise for you may be picked up from the library beginning Nov. 27.
