The theme for the 2022 Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild (PPQG) winter challenge was “Finding Peace in a Chaotic World”. With all the chaos, uncertainty, and fear over the last two years, we wanted to challenge quilters to show the world what brings each of them peace. My hope is that these quilts will help bring you peace.
“I have always loved butterflies. They are amazing how they bring hope, love, reincarnation. My sewing room is covered with butterflies as they make me happy,” said Barb Dudenhoeffer, first place winner.
Elizabeth Rowden told the members, “Cardinals have always brought me peace. When you see a cardinal, they are a visit from a friend”. Liz Rowden, of Vienna, is the groups’ third place winner. Rowden used a variety of pieced blocks, large and miniature, along with applique to create her quilt.
Kathy Stack remarked, “What better way to find peace, than in your sewing room?” Stack, from St. James, is the group’s second place winner. Stack’s quilt is wool hand applique. She leads a wool applique special interest group each month (day time session), for members enjoying and learning wool hand applique techniques.
Several other members revealed their winter challenge quilt at the PPQG March meeting. This is an annual event, which is displayed every year during March at the Rolla Library, 900 N Pine Street. A special thank you to director Rebecca Buckley for welcoming us once again and assisting with the quilt display. Be sure to stop in and see all the quilts. Many members created their quilt entries, showing they found peace from seaside visits, walks in the woods, grandkids artwork, church activities, puzzles and songs.
The quilt exhibit will travel to the Uniquely Yours Quilt Shop on Hwy 72 in Rolla during the month of April. The PPQG welcomes visitors and new members to their monthly meeting held at the First Baptist Church located at 10th and Cedar, in Rolla. Meetings are held the first Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6 p.m. The next class offered by the guild is Free Motion Quilting, Saturday April 9. For more information regarding meetings, classes and special interest group you may contact Marilyn Fox, vice-president programs at 573-202-4001 or email foxmar@fidmail.com.
We hope you stop in at the Library or Uniquely Yours Quilt Shop to view the Winter Challenge exhibit.
