The DCFPD is announcing the retirement of Fire Chief Dennis Floyd after 33 years of dedicated service, the promotion of Assistant Fire Chief Derek Thomas to the rank of Fire Chief, and the promotion of Captain Derrick Marfitt to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief, all effective Dec. 1, 2025.
Board President Mike Godi stated, “Chief Floyd has exemplified what it means to be a devoted public servant. While we are sad to see him retire, we wish him the very best in his future endeavors. His leadership guided this department through some of its most pivotal changes, and I’m not sure anyone else could have seen it through the way he did.”
President Godi continued, “Chief Thomas and Assistant Chief Marfitt have the full confidence of the Board of Directors. Their vision, experience, and longstanding commitment to the DCFPD will serve both the department and the community well. We look forward to working alongside them as we continue the work of transforming the district.”
The DCFPD is comprised of more than 20 volunteer firefighters who respond to emergencies across 127 square miles of Dent County, including the City of Salem. The district answers approximately 240 emergency calls each year.
