Healthy Dent County (HDC) is excited to announce its participation in the upcoming Heroes Marathon by hosting a virtual 5K event on 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. The event aims to promote wellness in the community while honoring local veterans.
HDC Program Director Jackie Sisco emphasizes the importance of goal setting: “It’s very easy to put off any kind of improvement goal unless you make a plan and set a target date. Our office has decided to walk a 5K together as part of our wellness initiative. We’ve begun walking during breaks and lunchtimes to prepare for the Heroes Marathon 5K walk. Supporting each other’s wellness goals during the workday not only boosts productivity but is also linked to fewer sick days.”
While not all HDC staff can attend the Heroes Marathon on the official race day, Nov. 15, they are determined to participate virtually.
“We’re inviting the community to join us for our own 5K day on Nov. 8,” states HDC Executive Director Sherry Lea. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to engage in a healthy activity while supporting our veterans.”
Participants are encouraged to register on the Heroes Marathon website to receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal at https://www.heroesmarathon.com. The event will kick off at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory, and everyone is welcome to join in on the fun.
Members of the HDC team, including Sisco and various staff members, will lead the walk. Additionally, members of the Healthy Dent County Fitness Center can join at a discounted rate.
“This year, we’re thrilled to offer the flexibility of a virtual participation option,” Sisco adds. “Some of us will be volunteering on Race Day, so this allows us to be part of the Heroes experience at our convenience.”
Join us on 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory for a day of health, community, and honoring our heroes!
