Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported during Monday’s Dent County Commission meeting that he is scheduled to meet with Wayne Wallingford, director of the Department of Revenue (DOR), along with Sen. Justin Brown and Rep. Ron Copeland. The purpose of the meeting is to understand, from the county’s perspective, what happened regarding last year’s withholding of funds. Wallingford was not yet head of DOR at that time—he was appointed to the office by the governor in December of 2021.
Skiles also wanted to make special note that the county received a letter from Dent County Prosecutor Andrew Curley clarifying his opinion regarding senate bill 53 which, in part, is related to county sheriff salaries (as reported in previous county commission reports).
