The Dent County Commission met for its weekly meetings Monday, Nov. 10; Thursday, Nov. 13; and Monday, Nov. 17. In attendance included Presiding Commissioner Gary Larson, First District Commissioner Keith Green, Second District Commissioner Jimmy Williams, and County Clerk Angie Curley.
In public comments, AJ Seay shared that he would be filing for Presiding Commissioner on Feb. 24, 2026.
Derrick Marfitt, Emergency Management Administrator, was in attendance Monday, Nov. 10, and reported that one of nine FEMA projects was approved—County Road 3220. The county received $12,986.85.
Further, Marfitt shared that Phelps and Crawford counties are contracting with the Sheriff’s Department for the EMA position. It would be under the emergency personnel when calculating payroll.
Treasurer Denita Williams reported on sales tax for the month:
• General revenue received $95,409.96, which is up YTD 3.7%
• Each jail received $95,831.65, which is up YTD 10.8%
• Road and bridge received $47,704.73, which is up YTD 10.9%
Collector Shannon Vankirk reported that she had collected $51,789.90 for the month of October.
Larson reported that he attended an MRPC meeting and housing board meeting. In total for the MRPC region, there are 308 waiting for housing assistance—Dent County has 25 of the requests, shared Larson. Larson also reported there was a gentleman at the MRPC meeting from the small business development center of Missouri S&T who shared he’d be happy to assist any small businesses.
Larson will be attending a tourism committee meeting the evening of Monday, Nov. 17.
In addition, Larson shared that the External Relations Committee of MRPC sent out a poll for attendees of the past MRPC Annual Banquet to rate the event. There have been no poor ratings, and the banquet was well attended.
“Our hats off to Sherry Lee,” complimented Larson.
Curley reported payroll and bills are to be approved. She’s working on the 2026 budget.
Filing begins for the April 7, 2026, municipal election Dec. 9-30, 2025. Candidates may file at the districts they are interested in.
Road Reports Nov. 17
District One Commissioner Keith Green
Crew members will be grading county roads 5610 and 5615 and cutting brush on County Road 6255. They will also be completing a variety of maintenance tasks. A pipe is to be installed on Iron Mountain Road.
District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams
Crew members will be stockpiling rock and cutting brush on County Road 6150.

Both commissioners had no road reports due to crew members taking off Thursday, Nov. 13 rather than Tuesday, Nov. 11 (Veterans Day.)

District One Commissioner Keith Green
Crew members will be grading in the area of County Road 5600; brush cutting on County Road 5530; and doing ditch work.
District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams
Crew members will be grading on county roads 4380, 2160, 2165, 2170, and 2350, and hauling rock and brush cutting on County Road 2150. Williams shared he’s received calls on brush cutting needs but stated grading is a priority, due to there being only one brush cutter operator currently.
