‘Tis the season for lots of baking and craft making. Let Salem Public Library be your helpful holiday elf. Beautifully illustrated cookbooks and how-to craft books are available for checkout. Library staff is happy to assist you in finding resources for your holiday entertaining and a sleigh-full of gift-giving.
Searching for something unique for that special someone? A library card is the perfect gift to last beyond the season! Non-district memberships are only $25 for six months or $50 for an entire year. Gift cards are available at the circulation desk.
Through December 15th, the library is again collecting warm winter accessories for area children in need. New hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and socks may be hung on the Giving Tree. All items will go to Oak Hill R-1 this year.
The monthly preschool program is scheduled for Tuesday the 9th at 10:30. Held in the north basement meeting space, this program is for children ages 3 to 6. Volunteers Carrie Border, Joan Caton, and Angie Penberthy will share picture books, a simple craft, and terrific enthusiasm for early literacy!
All adults age 60 and over are invited to Recollections on Wednesday the 10th at 10:30. This enriching time of casual conversation is also held in the north basement meeting space. The topic of discussion is “random acts of kindness”. Volunteer Barbara Pratt hosts this time of sharing memories and camaraderie.
The new book club for adults is hosted by volunteers Adam Gargus and Judy Moore. That gathering will be at 1:00 on Wednesday the 17th in the library’s conference room. This month, there isn’t one specific title to read. Instead, readers are welcome to describe any book that they have read and would like to recommend to others. It ought to be a terrific opportunity to make a list of “to be reads” for the new year!
The young and young at heart are encouraged to write letters to Santa this month in the juvenile area. Also in that section of the library is a reindeer scavenger hunt. As always, when the weather outside is frightful, the STEM Design and Build Center is set up for constructive fun and creativity.
All programs and activities are free. A library card isn’t required for participation. Salem Public Library is located at 403 N. Jackson. Please call (573) 729-4331 for more information.
