The Dent County Fire Protection District Board met for a board meeting Tuesday Aug. 12. In attendance included board members Mike Godi, David Greenshields, Dr. Leigh Ann Price, Jeff Stokes, and John Knight. The monthly reimbursement report was presented with a total of 14 calls for the month and 171 total calls for the year.
Board members voted to amend the agenda to include Friends of Dent County Fire. Director Price discussed the closing of Friends of Dent County Fire and closing out the funds. The bond steering committee will be meeting to close final minutes and finances in the near future.
Bills, payments, and statements were reviewed and approved. The treasurer stated that even though all trucks and payments had been voted on and approved in prior meetings, he wanted an email vote with the final cost attached before paying the bills from the bond money. The email vote was approved with a quorum vote of “yes” to approve $3,027,245.15. These were paid with bond money received.
Real Estate assessed at $87,004,917 and Personal Property assessed at $41,826,215, for a total of $128,831,132. The current tax rate is set to 0.2377. With maximum legal rate, in compliance with Missouri laws, 0.2382. The board also decided to take a voluntary reduction in the bond percentage from the state allowed 0.2959 to 0.2300, as this was the number given to the voters during the passing of the bond. After discussion, motion was made, seconded and carried all for to set the new tax rate to 0.2382 and bond to 0.2300.
Under old business, John Knight reported he will be looking into different options and reporting back for the Fidelity (CTI) Tower Lease.
After the reading of Resolution 0812-2025 for MEC filing, all board members approved for Godi to sign and Dave Wells, treasurer, to file with the State MEC Commission.
After discussion, three trucks were presented and approved to be declared as surplus, including a 2002 Sterling Tanker 2000 gallon tank; 1995 Freightliner Firemaster Pumper; 1500 GPM pump and 1000 gallon tank; and 1993 International Tanker, 2500 gallon tank.
Previously used fuel cards no longer work after a recent contract change from Conoco to Marathon. After looking into current options available, new universal cards will be issued allowing more fuel station options, with board members approving.
Chief Dennis Floyd presented the board with bids, with the board approving the following:
• Brush truck bed and bumper from Kinder Farm Supply, Licking
• Skid Units from THL Fire Equipment, two units
• Lightbar, Antennae wiring from Scenic Rivers Vehicle Outfitter, including labor, connection to repeater system, and siren setup for $13,452.04
• A truck radio for 8010 from A&W Communications
Meanwhile, Floyd reported that the Dent County Health Center will have vaccinations at the station Oct. 2.
