The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held a meeting on May 9 at the fire station. The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. with board members Craig Smith, David Greenshields, Liz Gruendel, and Leigh Ann Price attending.
The consent agenda was approved, and the minutes from the previous meeting reviewed.
A financial report was given, with an ending balance of $204,519.33 as of April 30.
Bills, payments, and statements were reviewed. An election bill from the County Clerk for $9,970.00 was presented to the board. After review, a motion was made and carried all to pay the bill as presented.
The board reviewed the budget and compared it to last year’s numbers.
The board reviewed the calendar. A station tour for R-80 first graders is scheduled for May 11. A home school tour will also be held sometime in May, although an official date has yet to be set.
The monthly reimbursement report was presented, with a total of 22 calls for the month of April, and 117 total calls for the year. Of the 22 calls responded to in April, there were five building fires, one passenger vehicle fire, three forest/woods/wildland fires, one brushfire, one grassfire, one rubbish fire, one cultivated vegetation fire, one EMS call excluding vehicle accidents, one motor vehicle accident with injuries, two gas leaks, one dispatched and cancelled en route, one false alarm, one unintentional alarm activation, and two “special type” incidents.
By-laws were reviewed, and no changes were made.
During the Chief’s report, Fire Chief Brad Nash reported that Engine 85 is in the shop awaiting parts, Engine 83 has transmission problems and is being repaired in Springfield, and the search and rescue John Deere Gators are at John Deere for repair.
Nash also reported that the radio repeater is still having problems following a recent lightning storm. The radio company came by to help, but parts are weeks out and possibly not even available for purchase. The board asked Chief Nash to get more information and bids so the board can move forward with the repair or replacement of the repeater.
The Chief stated that the FPD is still moving forward with a grant.
The date for the next meeting was set for June 13 at 6 p.m. at the fire station in Salem.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
