As a winter storm bears down on the region, here are the cancellations issued by local organizations so far:
• County offices will be closed Dec. 22,
• The special meeting of the Salem Board of Aldermen slated for this evening has been cancelled.
• The Dent County Commission will not meet at its regular time Dec. 22.
• The Salem city offices will be closed Dec. 22. Temporary City Administrator Sally Burbridge encourages citizens to be safe and stay home if possible.
Those in need of shelter from the bitter cold are asked to go to the Salem Police Department lobby. If the need arises, the city will open the old city hall basement as a shelter.
The City of Bunker has set up a warming station at the school. Those seeking shelter are asked to enter through the old gym doors. Coffee, hot chocolate, and snacks are available for all.
The Salem News will keep you updated on cancellations and closures as information becomes available.
