Kinsey Owen joins The Salem News as Vickery Intern.
Catherine WynnKinsey Owen, a junior at Salem High School, has been selected to fill the Vickery Internship at The Salem News.
The paid internship includes working at the newspaper learning basics of journalism, according to publisher Donald Dodd.
The internship was started in honor of the Vickery family, longtime owners of the newspaper.
“The Vickery intern program has been great for the newspaper,” Dodd said. “Hopefully, it has also proven valuable for the interns, who get to experience journalism first-hand instead of just from a book. There is no better way to learn than through experience.”
Owen is the daughter of Robby Owen and the late Dawn Owen.
At SHS, she is part of the track team.
Her other interests include weightlifting and art.
Previous Vickery interns include Heather Schaller, Dina Williams, Jonathan Bertz, Drew Carmier, Lindsey Gott, Rachel Greene, Janeen Hankinson, Katie Hunt, Seth Gott, Rebecca Soard, Liz Snyder, Rachelle Hayes, Emily Moser, Tucker Conley, Alexis Crocker, Emily Brown, Carson Mowery, Cory Gamblin, Anita Conway, Malia Terrill, Brecklyn Holtz, Denise Stoner, and Olivia Wisdom.
Duties of the intern include photography, writing and editing news stories, a weekly school column and compiling the calendar section of the newspaper, along with some website work.
