Poppy Proclamation

Mayor Greg Parker (Center) holds aloft a mayoral proclamation declaring the month of May to be Poppy Month in Salem in honor of the nation’s veterans on May 10. American Legion Auxiliary President and Poppy Chairwoman Barb Medlock (left) and 1st Vice President Glenda Wofford were present for the signing. The proclamation calls upon citizens of Salem to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom by wearing the Memorial Poppy during May. The poppy became the official flower of The American Legion in 1920 to memorialize the soldiers who fought and died during World War I, as the flower flourished all over Europe.
