The Dent County Commission met for a regular meeting Thursday, Aug. 28. Those in attendance included Presiding Commissioner Gary Larson, District One Commissioner Keith Green, District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams, and County Clerk Angie Curley. Grant Wilson, field representative for Jason Smith, provided a report on the congressman’s recent efforts.
The farm tour, which Smith completes annually during the August recess, was able to visit 23 out of 28 represented counties in the eight congressional district. Smith was able to discuss concerns from local farmers regarding the federal government and actions it may take to assist them.
Regarding the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Wilson indicated Congress is working to secure trade deals with other countries to open markets up to United States products.
Larson asked when the no taxes on tips or overtime will be going into effect, in which Wilson shared it will begin in 2026 and be retroactive to 2025.
Williams thanked Smith for his response on moving along FEMA funding.
Larson reported that the Annex building has been hearing water running. According to Larson, water has been feeding into the building located next door.
Curley reported bills are to be approved. Three tax districts are still needing to turn in certified tax rates by Friday, said Curley Thursday.
