Three people lost their lives Wednesday, Aug. 30, resulting from a four-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 63 south of Phelps County Road 5170, according to an online report of Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Losing their lives as a result of the collision were Patrick L. Perry, 61, of Newburg; Grace E. Gorman, 19, of Rolla; and Michael A. Sutton, 18, of Edgar Springs. All three were pronounced deceased on scene by Phelps County Coroner Ernie Coverdell. Their next of kin has been notified.
A Troop I crash report states Perry was northbound at 8:53 p.m. Aug. 30 operating a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when it crossed the centerline of the roadway south Phelps County Road 5170 and struck a southbound 2007 GMC Yukon, driven by a 16-year-old Edgar Springs female. The Chevrolet then also struck a southbound 2007 Ford Focus, driven by Gorman. This collision caused both southbound vehicles to rotate and the GMC to be struck again by a southbound 2002 Ford F-150, driven by a 16-year-old Edgar Springs male. The GMC then traveled off the right side of the roadway and into a rock bluff.
This crash resulted in Troop I’s fifth, sixth, and seventh fatalities for August and 17th, 18th, and 19th for 2023.
Two GMC passengers, an 11-year-old Edgar Springs male and a 16-year-old Edgar Springs female, both received minor injuries in the crash and were transported by private vehicle to Phelps Health for treatment.
Assisting the highway patrol on scene was the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department. All four vehicles sustained total damage and were removed from the scene by D&D Towing and Ron Dishman Towing.
