The ninth annual food drive collection at the Salem Upper Elementary "From Our Place to His Place," ran from Nov. 5 through Nov. 19. The collection consisted of non-perishable food items. The food drive was done as a grade level competition between 1st through 5th grade. The ounces of each donated food item was tallied as points to reach a grand total for each grade. Students put their donated items in a labeled grade-level box in the foyer. Donations amounted to 22,088.60 ounces of food.
First grade was the winner with a total of 6,941.50 points/ounces of food. They will receive a pizza party. Third grade was not far behind with 6,269 points/ounces of food. Second grade contributed 5,841.60 points/ounces of food. This year was the largest amount we have collected since we started this food drive nine years ago. The collection surpassed last year by 7,737.30 ounces.
