Miles and Amber Yates and family of Salem were among the Missouri families honored at the 68th annual Missouri Farm Family Day on Aug. 11, 2025, during the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.
The Yates family was chosen as the Dent County Missouri Farm Family by University of Missouri Extension and the Dent County Farm Bureau. The family includes two children, Ella and Emeri.
Each year, the Missouri State Fair designates a day to celebrate farm families from across the state who are engaged in production agriculture, demonstrate strong community involvement, and participate in outreach and youth development programs such as 4-H or FFA.
The Yates Family operates a 600-acre cow/calf farm, with 300 leased and 300 owned acres. Farming together with Amber’s parents, Ella and Emeri jump in to help with vaccinating, weaning and at calving time. When school is out, the girls help with feeding and any other help that is needed. They are also active in 4-H, sports and jackpots shows.
When asked how farming in Dent County has impacted their family, Miles stated, “Raising cattle in Dent County with a family is what we envision our lives looking like in the future. With a dream of growing the operation and giving our children something to bring their children back to one day. Keeping our family on the land and raising our kids in the country is and will always be a dream and priority”.
Farm Family Day is made possible through the support of the Missouri Farm Bureau, the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Missouri State Fair Commissioners, the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, and MU Extension.
“This day is a meaningful tradition that puts the spotlight on the families who are the backbone of Missouri agriculture,” said Missouri State Fair Director Jason Moore. “They’re not only feeding our state and nation, but they’re also leading in their communities and supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders. It’s an honor to recognize their dedication.”
