Midco’s once mighty industrial center is today a ruin with tangled vines and mossy, lichen-covered walls. Â
Paul Turley is buried overlooking the Midco smokestack and ruins his family purchased in the 1950s. His descendants still live on the former company’s grounds and have re-marked the abandoned town’s cemetery. Â
Midco’s century-old abandoned smokestack is still the tallest structure in Carter County and its surrounding neighbors.

In its glory years Midco was a thriving boom town and the largest city in Carter County. It was abandoned less than three years after being devastated by the 1918 Spanish Influenza.
