The Salem Tigers' Junior Varsity basketball team ended its
season with a 50-15 win over Mountain Grove Friday in Salem, then a
50-14 win over Plato and a 47-28 loss to West Plains Saturday in
the Licking Junior Varsity tournament.
Salem finished the season 7-9 overall, 5-1 in the SCA.
The last two games were in the Licking Tourney that was postponed,
coach Carey Davison said. Salem had to forfeit its first round game
due to the weather and that put the Tigers in the loser'S bracket.
Also because of the Cabool game being rescheduled to Saturday the
Tigers were without two players for the tournament.
Cody Whitaker led Salem scorers with 12 points. Matt Sirois had
nine points, Tyler Wofford eight, Austin Bettigrew five, CJ
Davison, Alex Maggard and Brady Floyd four each and Kutter
Tiefenthaler and Carson Sheppard two each.
Mountain Grove did not score a 2-point field goal. The Panthers had
four, 3-point shots and three of six free throws.
In the Plato win, Salem held a 12-4 lead and a 27-8 halftime
margin. The Tigers outscored Plato 18-6 in the second half.

Davison nine, Joe Hernandez eight, Bettigrew five, and Maggard

West Plains led Salem 12-7 at halftime and 20-13 at halftime. The
Zizzers won the third quarter 17-5. Both teams scored 10 points in
the fourth period.
"With only seven players trying to play two games in four hours is
a tough way to go, but I was proud of these guys as they worked
hard and never gave up in this game," coach Davison said.
West Plains hit only two more field goals than Salem but connected
on four, 3-point shots compared to none for Salem.
