Houston finished in first place out of the five teams featured in the Salem Open last Tuesday night at the Spring Creek Country Club in Salem. The Tigers took second place for their home debut with 211 points.
Ian Barnes from Licking shot an even par 36, which led all golfers by seven strokes in the nine-hole match. Kobe Sutton from Houston scored a 43, which was good for second place. Senior Hayden Major paced the Tigers with a third place finish with a 46 on his home course.
"Hayden's 46 was a very good score for our first time playing this year,” said Coach Phil McClintock. "We would like to be right at or under 200 as a team. 211 is a decent start for our first match with limited practice time because of weather."
Salem individual scores: Hayden Major 46; Jacob Smallwood 52; Keion Owen 56; Zach Elliott 57; Alex Major 61
Other team scores: Houston 194; Salem 211; Licking 234; Viburnum (not enough players to score); Cabool (not enough players to score)
