Funeral service for Otto Vester Lough was October 24, 2013 at Dent County Memorial Chapel, Salem, with J.J. Tune officiating.
Music was provided by recorded selections.
Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Matthew Williams, Wade Mendenhall, Scott Mendenhall, Brandon Mendenhall, Jonathan Edwards and Terry Finley. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Burrow, Stan Nelson and John McDonald.
Mr. Lough was born October 23, 1926 in Darien to Paul Vernon and Roxie (Summers) Lough. He married Ruthene Tipton September 9, 1949. They were the parents of two children. Mr. Lough died October 21, 2013 at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 28 days.
Survivors include his children, Ruthann Williams and husband, Michael, Salem; and Larry Lough, Salem; special friend, Loretta Burrow, Salem; sister, Bernadean Finley, Elsberry; sister-in-law, Edith Lough, Montgomery, Texas; and Dorothy Tipton, Salem; grandchildren, Roxann Williams; Matthew Williams and wife, JaNaya; and Trisha Lough Mendenhall; great-grandchildren, Scott, Kyla, Brandon, Jacob Mendenhall; Judson and Jett Sanders; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; mother and father-in-law, Beatrice and Ike Tipton; infant brother, John Lough; brother, Eugene Lough; two brothers-in-law; Robert Tipton and Clarence Finley.
Mr. Lough served in World War II. He received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Bronze Star, Bronze Arrowhead Navy Occupation service, Medal with clasp- Asia China service Medal, Philippine Liberation Combat Action Ribbon National Honor Roll. He also received a Commendation for the officers and crew of the U.S.S. Oak Hill for one of the most amphibious assaults in the history of warfare.
