Gene was born July 26, 1944 in Sebree, Kentucky to the late Calvin and Lucille Conaway.

On Tuesday, December 15, 2020 Russell Eugene “Gene” Conaway passed away peacefully at the age of 76, in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.
Gene was born July 26, 1944 in Sebree, Kentucky to the late Calvin and Lucille Conaway.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marsha; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Mike Garrett Williamsville, Illinois; Brenda and Jim Frick, Sherman, Illinois; son, Jason Conaway, Mississippi; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; step-children Diane and Todd Payne, Jennifer Singer, Lori and Tom Hoagland, Angel and Andrew Wilkin; siblings, Jim and Shannon Conaway, Carol and Albert Mitchell, and Dale Conaway, all of Salem; Gary Conaway, Texas; Gladys Barton, California; Larry and Jean Conaway of Springfield, Illinois; and Debbie Britton and Ron Conaway, St. Robert.
Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings, Mary Ann Henderson, North Carolina; Shirley Conaway, Calvin Conaway, Richard and Sheila Conaway, and Roger Conaway, all of Salem; and Linda and Bill Trader, Loami, Illinois.
Gene grew up and attended school in Salem as well as Sherman and Rochester, Illinois. In his later years he enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling often to visit family and friends in Salem. Gene will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
