Virginia “Kay” Wortman was carried into the arms of Jesus February 1, 2025. Born October 14, 1939, Watertown, Wisconsin, to John and Irene Babb, and married Donald Ray Wortman June 6, 1958, in Rockford, Illinois.
Don and Kay met at Lincoln, Illinois, Bible Institute, and began serving in ministry for 45+ years in Christian churches in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, as well Belle, Mexico, and Salem, Missouri.
Kay’s passion for family, friends, church, and community continued until her death. She had a heart for those in need. She served her community as a city council member, substitute teacher, county librarian, and ambulance board member. She had a passion for reading and supporting local libraries.
Kay is known for letters and notes of encouragement sent all over the world. She enjoyed a good book, quiet cup of coffee, feeding God’s creatures at her back door, meals with friends, angel décor, and decorating her home.
Kay was blessed with four surviving children: Seth (Theda) Wortman, Providence Forge, Virginia; Cathy (Bobby) Simpson, Salem, Missouri; Shannon (Dawn) Wortman, Linn, Missouri; Lori (John) Tackett, Belle, Missouri. Seven grandchildren: Megan Midyett, Jarrod Simpson, Jared Wortman, Callan Tackett, Mykayla Wortman, Calah Whitelock, and Katelin Busbey. Twelve great grandchildren, one surviving brother, Raymond (Linda) Babb, Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, plus an aunt, cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother.
A private graveside was held February 7 at Jadwin Church of Christ, Jadwin, Missouri.
