Roy Devern Bedwell, 65, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis.
Roy was a loving husband, Father, Brother, and Grandpa to his Granddogs. Family was everything to Roy, and he was deeply bonded to his family. They depended on each other and blessed each other.
Roy started his Journey in Salem, MO, born to Roy Sherwood and Melba June (Bailey) Bedwell on December 13, 1959. He attended school in Salem and started his work life in charcoal manufacturing there. He later helped open another charcoal facility in Ellsinore, MO, and that brought him to our area.
He married the love of his life, Jerri Rackley on July 21, 1984, and to this union two children were born.
Roy later worked as a heavy machinery operator and mechanic for EBS Backhoe in Piedmont before becoming self employed with his business, Bedwell Excavating. He fixed everything for everyone. If he couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed.
He worked several years before a stroke cut his working years short. In spare time he enjoyed nature, hunting deer, throwing horseshoes and watching demolition derby’s in Salem. In his younger years he participated in derby’s. This was a love he shared with his entire family.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of forty-one years; his loving daughter Stephanie Bedwell-Johnston of Piedmont; loving siblings: Scotty Bedwell and wife Ginnie Lou of Salem, Marsha Morris and husband Mike of Patterson, Joyce Lundy of Salem, Theresa Bedwell of Springfield; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; he is also survived by his good friend Randy Zamzow.
In addition to his parents Roy is preceded in death by his loving son Roy “Dwight” Bedwell, whom he missed dearly; loving siblings: Ray Bedwell, Larry Bailey, Sharron Lundy, and Vicky Mailes.
Roy will be greatly missed and his memory will live on in hearts that knew and loved him.
