Funeral service for Virgil Wayne McWhorter was June 12, 2025 at Wilson Mortuary Chapel, Salem, with Pastor Chris Hendrix and Pastor Veronica Lato officiating. A eulogy was shared by his granddaughter Hannah.
Interment was in the Morrison Cemetery, with Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Mike McWhorter, Link Honeysett, Joshua Lloyd, Nathaniel Lloyd, Dustin White, and Curtis White. Honorary Pallbearer was Dennis White. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 99 and United States Army.
Mr. McWhorter was born October 1, 1933, in Lake Spring, to Roby Scott and Maud Isabell (Adams) McWhorter. He married Ruby Watson on September 18, 1953. He later married Alma, March 18, 2006. Mr. McWhorter died June 7, 2025, in Columbia at the age of 91 years.
Survivors include his wife, Alma McWhorter, Salem; daughter, Karen Lloyd, St. Louis; sons, Curtis White and wife, Wanda, Perry; and Dennis White and wife, Gail, Ironton; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; daughters by heart, Pam Brantley, Patty Shaver, Aly Lato, Donna Dale, and Renee Vermillion; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death was his first wife, Ruby (Watson) McWhorter; parents; and his siblings, Letha Parsons, Buck McWhorter, Gene McWhorter, Charles “Red” McWhorter, Edna Fitzgerald, and Peggy Route.
