Funeral service for Larry Whitaker was September 21, 2012 at James & Gahr Mortuary Chapel, Salem, with Bro. Mike Gorman officiating.
Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Mr. Whitaker was born August 5, 1930 in Salem to Carl and Susie (Parker) Whitaker. He married Doris Inman November 7, 1954. They were the parents of three children. Larry had one son prior to their marriage, so they enjoyed raising four children. Mr. Whitaker died September 19, 2012 in Salem at the age of 82 years.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Whitaker, Salem; children, Melinda Medlock and husband, Danny, Steelville; Larry Whitaker and wife, Vicky, Eminence; Ricky Whitaker and wife, Debbie, O’Fallon; brother-in-law, Frank Gibbs, Salem; sisters-in-law, Eloise Whitaker, Salem; and Lil Whitaker, Gerald; grandchildren, Meagan Medlock; Michelle Steelman and husband, Jeremy; Kristy Smith and husband, Jim; Mark Whitaker and special friend, Lacey Rose; Sherry Whitaker; Scott Whitaker; Brandon Whitaker; Adam Whitaker; and Chris Whitaker; and a host of great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his son, Stanley Whitaker; brothers, Harold and Donald Whitaker; sisters, Elizabeth Bryant and Patsy Sue Gibbs.
Mr. Whitaker served his country in both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Dry Fork Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #99.
