Funeral service for Deborah “Debbie” Lynn Barton was March 7, 2020 at Wilson Mortuary Chapel, Salem, with Wanda Tatom and Kevin Prugh officiating.
Interment was in the Dry Fork Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rocky Barton, Ralph Laughlin, Scott Laughlin, Kenneth Laughlin, Travis Radford, John Barton, Alex Laughlin and Tim Fuller. Honorary pallbearers were John Morrow II and Rich Flynn.
Debbie was born September 2, 2005 in Houston to Rocky Barton and Lucy Schmitz. Debbie died March 1, 2020 in Salem at the age of 14 years.
Survivors include her parents, Rocky Barton and Lucy Schmitz, Salem; siblings, Morgan Barton and Rocky Barton Jr., Salem; grandparents, Scott and Jerrie Laughlin, Salem; and Deborah Schmitz, Salem; and a host of aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her grandfather, Guy Schmitz; and uncle, Bobby Schmitz.
Debbie spent her childhood in Salem and was an eighth grader at Green Forest R-II School. During her school years, she received many achievements. She earned the Musical Achievement Award from K-6th Grade. Debbie was a cheerleader for the Green Forest R-II Mustangs and played basketball, softball and volleyball. She had plans to attend Missouri State University of Springfield and dreamed of being a mechanic. In 2011, Debbie participated in the National American Miss and won the Outstanding Achievement Award. She was an avid bowler and was part of the Bantam Prep League at the Salem Bowling Center.
