A warning on communicable diseases highlighted the May meeting of the Dent County Health Center board.
In April, the center investigated one case of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, one case of strep pneumoniae, one case of campylobacteriosis, and an ongoing case of M. bovis. One animal bite was also investigated.
With warmer temperatures and increasing outdoor activities, the Health Center would like to remind residents to keep pets current on rabies vaccines, and avoid contact with stray animals.
Administrator Kendra Mobray reported the Health Center entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Health and Senior Services to provide treatment to those who test positive for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and their contacts.
Under old business, she reported that outpatient lab services were provided to 88 clients the month of April.
Under contract updates, Mobray reported an application for Breastfeeding Peer Counselor funding has been submitted to Mo DHSS. The WIC staff is working hard to reschedule missed appointments promptly and WIC participant numbers increased slightly last month, she said.
The MCH site visit in April went well, she said. Mobray will be attending the Responding to the Rural Substance Use Crisis Event in June, along with a representative from MRPC.
