The July meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District board opened with Liz Gruendel, representing the American Volunteers, presenting the district with Armor of God Coin #72 for work and community service performed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This coin is one of only six given out in Dent County, and one of only 100 in Missouri.
The 2019-20 budget was reviewed with an ending balance of $228,763.66, as of June 30.
The monthly reimbursement report was presented, with a total of 24 calls for the month, including
three structure fires, two brush fires, one car fire, four first responder calls, nine vehicle accidents, two mutual aid calls and two training sessions. There have been 129 calls so far this year at an average cost of $127 per call.
Chief Brad Nash updated the board on the building progress, saying that currently there are several small items that need to be addressed but work is at a standstill due to the pandemic. There is no time frame for completing the building. Final payment is on hold until it is finished.
Nash reported that the NFPA has placed expiration dates on all firefighter equipment. This makes the district’s equipment currently or soon-to-be outdated. Nash asked the board to approve $6,298 for new helmets to start the update. Other gear would be replaced on a rotational basis as to avoid replacing it all at the same time. A motion to replace the helmets was approved.
The next meeting is set for 6 p.m. Aug. 4 at the DCFPD building.
