It has been a busy and exciting few weeks for the City of Salem.
On April 8, voters participated in the municipal election. The City extends sincere thanks to all individuals who ran for elected office and congratulates those who won seats. There are three significant ways a person can serve their community and neighbors: by voting, by serving in the armed forces, and by serving as an elected official. We commend all who have stepped forward to serve.
Newly elected Aldermen were officially sworn in during the April 15 Board of Aldermen meeting. At that time, new committee appointments were also made to help guide the city's continued progress.
During the Utility Committee meeting on April 16, a special proclamation was issued to honor Mr. John Hambacker for his many years of dedicated service to the community, particularly in his longtime role on the Utility Committee. The City extends its heartfelt thanks for his commitment and contributions.
Meanwhile, Salem's Water and Wastewater Department achieved statewide recognition. Superintendent Christ McGuirt and Wastewater Leadman Josh Hunt represented the City of Salem in the final round of Missouri’s Drinking Water Taste Testing, held in Jefferson City. While at the Capitol, they had the opportunity to meet with State Representative John Hewkin, Senator Justin Brown, and were pleasantly surprised by a visit from U.S. Congressman Jason Smith, who was visiting the Capitol for Buy Missouri Day.
Salem proudly earned 3rd place in the Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Statewide Drinking Water Taste Testing—an achievement that reflects the hard work and dedication of our utility staff to providing high-quality drinking water to our community.
The City of Salem is grateful for the continued support of its residents and looks forward to building on these recent accomplishments.
