The Oak Hill R-I Board of Education met Jan. 19.
During the closed session, the board unanimously voted to hire Steve Bryant as the 2024-2025 part-time superintendent.
From a recent post by Oak Hill R-I:
After college and a few years in the world of business and agriculture, Bryant took the lessons and experience gained there and turned his career path towards what became one of the passions of his life, K-12 education.
His entry into education, leadership, and supporting kids began as an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor with the West Plains R-7 School System. Upon completing 10 years teaching for R-7, Steve accepted the leadership role as the Director of South Central Career Center in West Plains and served in this capacity for nine years. This opportunity provided a rich experience in working with business and industry, finance, and expanded educational opportunities for kids. That leadership experience moved Steve into the next realm of District leadership with assistant and superintendent positions at Salem R-80 for eight years.
Steve moved on to the Union R-XI School District in 2010 where he served the district for five years and completed his 32nd year in education. While in Union, Steve and his team were able to increase the financial reserves while passing a bond issue and putting the facilities and grounds back into peak conditions. These are all critical supports for creating an ideal condition for student learning and success.
In 2017, Steve failed at retirement and went to work for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) as their Career Pathways Manager. In this role he collaborated with organizations and leaders across the State to promote Career and Technical Education (CTE), the trades, health occupations, and technical occupations as viable options for students to have successful fulfilling careers without accumulating debt for student loans.
During Steve’s career he has been active and served in officer roles in civic, community, and his professional organizations.
Steve and his wife Christy, each have two children and are the proud grandparents of four wonderful grandchildren. He is excited to become part of the Oak Hill R-I team and community to help provide the best opportunities possible for kids to be successful in life.
Also in the January meeting a transfer of $12,015 was unanimously approved by the board from Fund 1 to Fund 4. The amount covered the purchase of interactive televisions from B&H Photo.
The board went into closed session from 6:35 p.m. until reconvening open session at 10:48 p.m.
