Three of four Dent County incumbents running for reelection were defeated in Tuesday’s primary election, according to unofficial election results.
Both county commissioners – District 1’s Wes Mobray and District 2’s Gary Polk – lost to challengers.
District 2 was won by Jimmy Williams (684 votes), with Polk (485) second and Denver Ellis (349) a distant third. District 1 was won by Keith Green (763 votes), and Mobray (731) finished a close second.
In the race for assessor, incumbent Jamie Homeyer (1,405 votes) lost to Alisa Brookshire (1,602).
The only incumbent to win was sheriff Bob Wells, who garnered 1,762 votes to Micheal Loveday’s 1,310.
All of the candidates are Republicans, and there were no Democrat candidates, so there will be no general election for county positions in November.
Of the 10,078 registered voters in Dent County, 3,455 voters visited the polls Tuesday - 34.28 percent.
• In another key local race, Crawford County’s John Hewkin easily defeated Dent County’s Lancer Blair for state representative for the 120th district. Hewkin had 4,800 votes to Blair’s 1,787. Hewkin had 1,668 to Blair’s 1,177 in Dent County. Hewkin, a Republican, will face Democrat Jen Tracy in the November general election.
• Incumbent Republican U.S. 8th District Representative Jason Smith had 2,340 votes in Dent County, with Grant Heithold of Licking second at 559 votes. With 330 of 392 precincts reporting, Smith held a commanding lead with 82% of the vote.
• Both constitutional amendments failed in Dent County. Amendment 1 (law enforcement) failed 1,990-1,270 and Amendment 4 (property tax waiver for childcare businesses) 1,770-1,455. Statewide, with 2,240 of 3,566 precincts reporting, Amendment 1 was losing with 55% no votes, and Amendment 4 held a narrow 51% total.
• In the race for governor Mike Kehoe was the Dent County leader with 1,343 votes to Bill Eigel’s 1,010. With 2,033 of 3,566 precincts reporting, Kehoe led Eigel statewide with 40% of the vote to 31%.
