According to online reports of Troop I of the highway patrol:

• Serious injuries were reported in a single vehicle accident that occurred at 2:05 p.m. Nov. 19 on Highway 19, two miles south of Salem. A 2001 Ford Taurus, driven by Karen L. Ellis-Quick, was northbound of Highway 19 when it ran off the right side of the roadway, struck two mailboxes and an embankment. Ellis-Quick reported serious injuries and was transported via Air Evac to Cox Hospital in Springfield. The Ford sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by the owner.
