The newest McDonald's Restaurant opened in Salem Wednesday at its location on Highway 19 North. The opening was well attended and left McDonald's officials pleased with the reception given to them by Salem residents.
“The day went real well and the reception was good," Supervisor Bob Koch said Thursday morning.
"It was higher than anticipated as a matter of fact," he said.
Dave Weinbaum, owner-operator, said that the Salem McDonald's will employ approximately 100 people at the beginning, and he hopes to continue at that level. "We're pleased as punch to be here," he said.
McDonald's and Salem officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday morning, officially breaking-in the restaurant. On that ribbon were $100 and the company donated that money to the Dent County Ministerial Alliance.
J.E. Corbin, chairperson of the Ministerial Alliance, accepted the donation.
Koch also said that he and McDonald's were real excited about the reception given. "It encourages us to do more for the town."
Part of that work with local people has already been seen. The landscaping around the restaurant was done by Glen Steelman of Salem.
Koch also said much of the work on the building was done by local people.
The Salem McDonald's will also be the first in the area to use a double drive-through window. Koch said the first window is to pay for and receive change for orders. The second will be to pick up orders. This will make service faster and better, he said.
Weinbaum said the store will be planning a grand opening in Salem Nov. 10.
