The City of Salem’s Utility Committee will hold a public meeting called by committee chairman Shawn Bolerjack on Tuesday (July 20) at 6 p.m. at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. The City of Salem provided notice of this meeting at 3 p.m. Friday.
The agenda includes the following topics:
· update on utility billing, which has been a contentious issue in the city since 2019.
· discussion of utility shut offs, which the Board of Aldermen voted to resume at their May 3 regular meeting. Those disconnects will officially begin Aug. 5, according to a press release sent by City Administrator Ray Walden.
· financial update of the FY 2021-2022 budget.
· discussion regarding the February cold snap utility bill and how to pay for the $1.7-million bill. Presently, the city is already making payments to the energy provider.
· review present electric rates paid by utility account holders in the City of Salem.
· discuss Utility and Street Department projects for FY 2021-2022.
· update regarding the Exceleron Pre-Paid Project; once completed it will allow for utility account holders to pay for their consumption in advance.
· discuss high water consumption readings that concerns Salem citizens.
