During the Sept. 14 meeting of the Dent County Commission, Presiding Commissioner Gary Larson said during his report that the recent waste collection event held in Salem was a success.
“I just want to comment on the special collections that we had recently. We had a total of 6.9 tons, 2.2 in tires, and 4.7 in electronics. And this broke Salem’s record haul in 2017 of 6.6 tons, so we had a good turnout for that, and a lot of people brought stuff in. I really thank the community for caring about what happens to all this stuff,” said Larson.
During road reports, District One Commissioner Wes Mobray said crews would be cutting brush on County Road 6370, and that some crew members would be doing shop maintenance and putting up road signs.
For District Two, Commissioner Gary Polk reported that he was down to three workers. He said crews would be grading on 2550, and cutting grapevines on 2570. He also said crews would be cutting limbs on 2120.
During the Sept. 18 meeting, Larson said he attended three meetings at the Meramec Regional Planning Commission the week before. There was a Transportation Advisory Committee meeting, and another committee meeting after, before attending a meeting of the MRPC board that evening.
“TAC meeting, they had 10 projects, and all of them were sidewalk improvements, in different areas of the district. Dent County came in third on the ranking, which I thought was good,” said Larson. “Some of the ones there were Gasconade County, the City of Hermann, City of Owensville, Potosi, and Rolla.”
In the other committee meeting, Larson said the annual MRPC dinner was discussed, and there will be no MRPC meeting next month.
Larson said that during the MRPC board meeting, an open position was discussed.
“We've got a vacancy at-large. We need a small business person. We had one resign on us, so we’ve got to find somebody to fill that spot,” said Larson.
Larson said that Wes Hester presented to the board on cybersecurity, and that a vote was taken and passed to apply for a grant for a cybersecurity contract with Hester.
Larson also said he received a message from Jill Hollowell with MRPC saying that the total tires collected from Dent County had reached 8 tons, which Larson said cost the MRPC $2,310.75 to dispose of.
“That’s a lot of tires,” said Polk.
“They may have added in that Saturday collection deal, too. She said your county total,” said Larson. “Which is a lot of tires, guys!” replied Larson.
Also, during the meeting, Mobray gave a report on bids for fuel for the county.
Three bids were received, from Phil-Mart, MFA, and County Fuels, coming in at $3.35/gallon, $3.4611/gallon, and $3.39/gallon, respectively. Commissioners reported that Phil-Mart would receive the contract.
During road reports, Mobray reported that District One crews would be grading 6410, 6040, and 5650, and hauling rock to 6040 and 6410.
For District Two, Polk said that crews would be grading, pulling a ditch, and hauling rock to 4280. He also said that signs would be put up on 2590 and 3295.
