Each year, Veterans Day provides an opportunity for communities to come together and honor and remember sacrifices made by our veterans. Local schools are taking an active role in the celebration with plenty of events and activities planned for veterans and their families, with most inviting veterans for warm meals and assemblies to honor their sacrifice. The events aim not to just recognize and honor veterans but to also educate students on the importance of Veterans Day.
Here’s a look at some events planned by area schools to honor our nation’s heroes.
The Salem High School will be holding an assembly and also a breakfast 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the high school cafeteria. All veterans and active duty members are invited to attend. The assembly will take place after breakfast at 8:30 a.m. To RSVP, call 573-729-6641 Ext. 5151.
There will be a program held for veterans at the City Hall at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11. The program is open for anyone to attend.
There will be an assembly held for veterans 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the Oak Hill gymnasium. The assembly will be open for anyone to attend.
There will be a program held for veterans 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the Green Forest gymnasium. The assembly will be open for anyone to attend.
There will be a program held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11.
A breakfast will be held for veterans with the assistance of JAG officers 8:15 a.m. In the afternoon, JAG officers will also be visiting local veterans’ homes to visit with those who may have mobility limitations and are not able to make it out to Veteran’s Day events.
