Livestock Specialist Eric Meusch reported to the commission during its meeting Monday morning a summary of what’s going on with the University of Missouri Extension.
Meusch reported that there has been a restructuring of how some of the experimentation farms in Missouri are organized. Now, Wurdack falls under the command of the extension office. “The extension is already responsible for 90% of what goes on at Wurdack,” said Meusch. So, in practice, it won’t change much about how the farm operates.
Meusch reported that they have an education day at Wurdack which is geared toward 14- to 17-year-olds. He also reported that there will be the Wurdack field day Oct. 8 and discussed upcoming artificial insemination workshops.
Meusch also reported that the extension office has filled the position geared toward managing feral hogs.
• District One Commissioner Wes Mobray reported that he has workers rebuilding part of the road on 6220 for the next two or three days. “It’s still going to be passable, but proceed with caution,” said Mobray.
• District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that he has an employee that will be helping on the 6220 project. He also has a crew working on the 4030 low-water crossing project.
• Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District meeting Sept. 28. According to Skiles they are in the process of reviewing 11 grant applications, one of which originates in Dent County.
Skiles also reported that he, Mobray, county clerk Angie Curley, Treasurer Denita Williams and deputy major Len Pabin attended an MRPC meeting in St. James Sept. 29 regarding how American Rescue Plan Act funds can be used. Skiles also stated that he attended the County Commissioners Association of Missouri executive board meeting in Jefferson City to discuss Senate Bill 53, which passed during this year’s legislative session.
