July 5, 1995 – Grateful Dead followers were at the Pinewood Lodge near Wentzville. A thunderstorm sent the Deadheads scrambling for cover on a deck which collapsed under their weight. More than 70 were injured.
July 6, 1897 – They were racing in Hayti. Pacing, trotting, running, and all sorts of novelty races that a horse might be able to perform. They also had bicycle races and gander pulling.
July 7, 1928 – Frank Bench, a baker in Chillicothe, began producing a revolutionary new product. He began selling sliced loaves of bread. Many scoffed but the entire world was soon buying their bread already sliced.
July 8, 1910 – Warrensburg’s Journal Democrat quoted an “expert” who stated that flying machines didn’t really exist because no one had yet figured out how to make the wings flap.
July 9, 1860 – The first recorded baseball game in St. Louis played under rules set out by the National Convention of Baseball Players took place. The "Morning Stars" beat "The Cyclones", 50 to 24, on a field just west of present-day Fairgrounds Park.
July 10, 1902 – In Springfield Lumas H. Holmes was offered $12,000 by his aunt. All he had to do was change his name to Frisbee. He chose to let her offer expire.
July 11, 1972 – This was the first modern reported sighting of MoMo, the Missouri Monster, near Louisiana, MO. Eventually sightings were reported in 29 Missouri counties.
