Salem Livestock Auction is a busy place to be on Monday afternoons, and a cultural experience, too.
Visitors say you can see friends and neighbors, get a hot cup of coffee, good food and conversation and sell your livestock, all in one stop.
The regular Monday sales auction hundreds, sometimes thousands of head of livestock.
It's a family operation for the Allen and Judy Thompson family. Their son Chuck and wife, Airika, and the Thompson's daughter, Renee, and husband, Scott Lauderdale, share ownership and the workload. Roger Schafer handles auctioneer duties, while Allen and Scott, and Keith Robertson work the animals into the sale area. Judy and Renee work the auction office.
Monday sales begin at noon.
Brandon and Bryce, grandsons of Allen and Judy, hold a goat, hog and sheep sale 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
A stock cow sale is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10.
