For a while it appeared the four-decade long winning streak that the Salem High School football team had over SCA rival Houston was in danger.
However, a second-half rally was enough to allow Salem to come from behind and defeat Houston 20-14 Friday, Sept. 11 at Salem High School.
It was the SCA opener for both squads.
It was also the 40th consecutive victory for Salem over Houston covering as many years. Both Salem and Houston are now 2-1 overall.
Houston went into halftime clinging to a 7-6 advantage. However, Salem took the lead for good with a pair of third-quarter touchdowns and went into the fourth period up 20-7.
In the final period Houston would trim its deficit by scoring a touchdown, but couldn’t get any closer.
Salem is scheduled to travel to Thayer Friday, Sept. 18 for another league game (7 p.m. kickoff).
