The Salem Lady Tigers kicked off SCA play on Monday night, Jan. 4 with a home game against the Cabool Lady Bulldogs. Salem jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, but Cabool battled back to tie the game by halftime. The Lady Tigers reclaimed control in the second half, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 33-24 to win by a final score of 60-51.

Salem’s best quarter of the game came in the opening frame, as they outscored Cabool 20-11. Six Lady Tigers scored in the opening quarter, with Savannah Manthey scoring six points, Ashton Bowers five points, Tatum Hatridge four points, Avery Erway and Bella Jadwin two points apiece, and Makayla Roos one point. Cabool bounced back in the second quarter, taking it 16-7 to make it 27-27 at half. Bowers led with five points in the second, while Jadwin added two points.

The Lady Tigers took the lead for good in the third quarter with a 20-14 effort to lead 47-41 going to the fourth. Jadwin led Salem’s attack in the third with ten points, Hatridge scored seven points, and Bowers scored three points. Salem went on to take the fourth quarter 13-10 to win by the final score of 60-51. Jadwin once again led the Lady Tigers in the fourth, scoring nine points, while Manthey and Erway each scored two points.

The win improves Salem’s record to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in the SCA. The Lady Tigers will face two tough SCA road trips next week as they travel to Willow Springs on Monday and Thayer on Thursday.
