After starting the game red-hot, the Rolla High School boys’ basketball team went ice-cold in the second quarter of the Bulldogs’ non-conference game at Salem Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Fortunately for RHS, the Salem Tigers were chilly throughout.

Blowing out to a 15-0 lead to start the game, RHS was able to hold on and post a 55-38 victory to even its overall record at 3-3.

Salem falls to 0-3.

Tuesday the Bulldogs connected on three 3-pointers in the first six minutes of play, helping RHS take the lead for good.

And a layup by senior forward Trey Brown off an assist from senior guard Patrick Blair with :49 remaining gave the visitors a 15-0 advantage. Senior forward Josh Arzt hit a driving layup 15 seconds later to help Salem avoid the first-quarter shutout. It was 15-2 going into the second period.

As bad as the Tigers’ offensive production was in the first quarter, it doubled the Rolla point total of the second period.

Neither team did much on the offensive end over the second quarter, as Salem outscored Rolla 8-1 to cut its halftime deficit to 16-10.

Rolla heated back up in the third quarter, going on a 10-6 run to open the third quarter. And a 12-foot jumper by junior guard Adam Hounsom at the 3:50 mark increased the Bulldogs’ edge back to 10, 26-16.

Salem, missing several chances in the paint, didn’t hit a field goal in the final three minutes of the period. And a driving layup by Blair with a second remaining gave Rolla a 15-point lead after three quarters, 38-23.

Salem had a double-figure deficit the rest of the game. A pair of Brown free throws gave the Bulldogs a 43-24 edge. The Tigers would whittle the Bulldog lead to 13 points midway through the period, as a layup by sophomore guard Easton May off a RHS turnover made it 44-31.

However, the Bulldogs reeled off seven unanswered points over the next 2:37, and a put-back by sophomore forward Luke Foster made it a 20-point game. L. Foster’s trey would make the final score.

Brown tallied 16 points while senior forward Danny Foster added 12 for Rolla.

Senior post Lucas Morrison tallied 15 points for Salem, 0-3.

Rolla won the JV game 58-35. The JV Bulldogs took a 21-17 lead into halftime and pulled away by outscored Salem 23-7 in the third quarter. Freshman guard Isaac Buhr led the Bulldogs with 19 points.

The Bulldog also won the freshman game 55-38. The Rolla freshmen led 14-5 after the first period and 25-18 at halftime. Rolla led 39-27 going into the fourth quarter. Three RHS players scored in double figures, led by Cameron Cooper with 16 points and Nick Shelton 15.
