The Salem Lady Tigers took on a pair of state-ranked teams last week and suffered non-conference losses in both games.
Thursday in Licking, Salem fell to the host Lady Wildcats 64-29 in the Big Cat Classic. And Monday, Jan. 27 the Lady Tigers hosted the West Plains Lady Zizzers and suffered a 56-37 setback.
The losses dropped Salem to 11-7.
Licking is ranked No. 8 in the most recent Missouri Class 3 state poll while West Plains is No. 2 in the Class 4 state poll.
This week the Lady Tigers were scheduled to play at Mountain Grove Monday and host Ava Thursday (6 p.m.) in SCA games.
Licking 64, Salem 29
While Salem was able to cut a big early deficit to twelve points in the third quarter, Licking answered with a run of its own to end the quarter and essentially put the game away.
Salem struggled mightily on the offensive end in the first quarter, scoring just four points while Licking put up 14 points. Bella Jadwin and Ashton Bowers each scored two points in the opening quarter. The Lady Tigers would hold their own better in the second quarter, but the Lady Wildcats still added to their lead with a 14-10 effort. Jadwin and Madison Woolf both scored three points, while Savannah Manthey and Nina Howard scored two points each.
Licking would put the game away for good in the third quarter, outscoring Salem 23-9 to lead 51-23 going into the fourth. Manthey, Woolf, and Tatum Hatridge all scored three points for Salem. The Lady Wildcats took the fourth quarter 13-6 to account for the final score of 64-29. Jadwin, Woolf, and Avery Erway scored two points apiece in the fourth.

West Plains 56, Salem 37
Salem would find itself down early as the West Plains defense stifled the Lady Tigers for much of the first quarter to make it 13-3 after one. Salem cut the deficit to six points in the second quarter, but a late run from West Plains to close the half put them up 28-11 at half.
The Lady Tigers would play evenly for much of the second half, but could not overcome the deficit as the Lady Zizzers went on to win.
