The Salem High School football team intercepted a pass in the endzone with six seconds remaining to hold on for a 21-14 SCA victory over the Mountain Grove Panthers Friday, Oct. 9 at Mountain Grove.

The Salem Tigers improved to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the SCA. Mountain Grove fell to 2-5 and 1-4.

In other games involving SCA teams Friday, Thayer whipped Ava 43-6; Mountain View Liberty got past Cabool 14-6, and Houston topped fill-in opponent Midway 14-7.

Friday Mountain Grove took a 7-6 lead over Salem after the first period on a four-yard TD run by Brendan Rogers. Salem’s first TD came on a pass play, with the PAT attempt failing. That would stand as the halftime score.

The Panthers scored a TD on a 68-yard breakaway run by Hollen Glenn and added the extra point while Salem got a rushing touchdown and two-point conversion as the game was tied 14-14 entering the fourth quarter.

Salem got the final TD in the fourth period, rushing in the TD with six minutes remaining.
