The Salem High School football team was no match for the defending Four Rivers Conference champion St. Clair Bulldogs Friday, Sept. 4, as the Tigers were beaten 45-14 in St. Clair.
Salem falls to 1-1 while St. Clair improves to 2-0.
The two teams exchanged touchdowns over the game’s first three minutes.
However, it was all St. Clair after that, as the Bulldogs went on to score three touchdowns in the first period to take a 19-7 advantage and added two more in the second period to go into intermission up 31-7.
Salem got its final TD in the third period before St. Clair added two more short rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Shane Stanfill had a pair of TD runs while QB Wes Hinson threw two touchdown passes and ran in another. Chase Walters had the two Bulldog scoring receptions.
Salem is scheduled to open SCA play Friday, Sept. 11 by hosting Houston (7 p.m.).
