Reese Dodson put on a show in his final home game as a Salem Tiger.

Dodson, the Tigers’ 5-11 senior guard, poured in 41 points to power Salem to a 72-49 victory over St. Clair in the regular-season finale Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Salem High gym.

Salem ends its regular season with a 12-13 record.

The Tigers are seeded second for this week’s Missouri Class 4 District 9 Tournament, being held at Union High School.

After receiving a first-round bye, Salem was to meet sixth-seeded Union (5-21) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 in the semifinals. In Tuesday’s other semifinal game top-seeded Sullivan (14-11) was to play fourth-seeded Rolla (10-16) at 5:30 p.m.

In first-round games Saturday, Feb. 29, Union clipped third-seeded St. Clair 40-34 while Rolla downed fifth-seeded Owensville 66-51.

The boys’ district championship game is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Friday, March 6.

It was the final appearance at home for Tiger seniors Dodson, Silas Wulff, Dawson Conway and Carter Chilton.

Dodson and Silas each tallied eight points in the first period to help Salem double up the St. Clair Bulldogs 18-9 heading into the second quarter.

Dodson reeled off 12 more points in the second period, but St. Clair stayed close as the Bulldogs’ senior guard Calvin Henry countered with nine points. Salem went into halftime up 34-29.

The Tigers began to pull away in the third period. With Chilton firing in nine points and Dodson eight Salem outscored St. Clair 18-8 in the quarter to up its advantage to 52-37 heading into the final period.

Dodson closed out the game with a 13-point fourth quarter, as the Tigers connected on 8-of-12 free throws.

“It was a great way to end the regular season and a great way for those seniors to go out at home,” said Salem head coach Bryan Carty. “Reese was able to get to the rim and finish. That made us very hard to guard. We shot a high percentage and cleaned up the boards.”

Chilton backed Dodson with 12 points.

Senior guard Dayton Turner scored 20 points and Henry 16 for St. Clair.
