Salem dropped three games last week. The Tigers opened the busy week by losing at Steelville 70-49 Jan. 26. In a rescheduled game Thursday in Salem, the Tigers fell to Cabool in their SCA opener 55-47. And Friday, Salem went to Licking and lost a non-conference game to the Wildcats 71-58.

Salem fell to 2-14. This week the Tigers are to play a pair of conference games on the road, at Willow Springs Tuesday and at Thayer Friday.

Licking 71, Salem 58: The Licking Wildcats fired in four 3-pointers in taking a 23-14 lead after the first quarter and held the advantage the rest of the way. Salem was limited to eight points in the second period and went into halftime behind 38-22.

Senior post Lucas Morrison poured in 13 points in the third period to help the Tigers trim their deficit to 48-45 going into the fourth period.

However, the Wildcats pulled away in the final quarter, hitting 7-of-9 free throws as well as a pair of three-pointers from freshman forward Keyton Cook.

Morrison finished with 23 points to pace Salem, while sophomore guard Gunnar Konkel added 19.

Senior forward Wilson Murray had a game-high 27 points for Licking.

Cabool 55, Salem 47: Sluggish first-half scoring came back to haunt Salem in a game against Cabool.

Cabool doubled the score on the Tigers 16-8 after the first period. And the Tigers managed just four points in the second period and went into intermission trailing 30-12.

The Tigers picked up the scoring pace in the third period, outscoring Cabool 19-9. However, despite a 10-point fourth quarter by Morrison, Salem couldn’t come all the way back, as Cabool hit 7-of-14 free throws in the final period to hold on.

Senior forward Braiden Carmack had 13 points and Morrison added 12 for the Tigers.

Senior Jacob Shockley had 19 points and senior Logan Primanzon added 14 for Cabool.

Steelville 70, Salem 49: The Steelville Cardinals erupted for 25 points in the second period to take control. Sophomore Landon Mabe fired in 12 first-half points to help Steelville take a 37-19 lead into halftime.

The Cardinals added 19 more points in the third quarter to grab a 56-34 advantage heading into the final period.

Konkel netted 11 points in the fourth period but it was not enough.

Morrison had 16 points and Konkel added 13 for the Tigers. Mabe paced Steelville with 19 points.
