Ashton Bowers scores under heavy defense, against Licking

Salem traveled to Sullivan to face the Lady Eagles Thursday and used a dominant first half performance to take a 34-12 lead at halftime en route to a 63-39 victory. The Lady Tigers hit six three-pointers in the first half and 10 in the game, including seven from Savannah Manthey to tie the single-game school record.

Sullivan jumped out to a 4-1 lead early in the first quarter, but Salem responded by turning to full court pressure defense and began to rack up steals. The Lady Tigers would grab 18 steals on the evening, with Ashton Bowers and Avery Erway picking up six and four, respectively. By the end of the first quarter, Salem had taken a 17-7 lead. Manthey and Bella Jadwin scored six points apiece in the first quarter to go along with five points from Bowers. The Lady Tigers continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Eagles 17-5 to lead 34-12 at halftime. Manthey scored seven in the quarter; Tatum Hatridge scored four; and Jadwin, Bowers, and Makayla Roos scored two points each.

Sullivan took the third quarter by a score of 16-14 to make it 48-28 going to the fourth. Manthey picked up 10 points in the quarter, while Jadwin and Bowers scored two points apiece. The Lady Tigers won the fourth quarter 15-11 to account for the final score of 63-39. Manthey scored four points; Jadwin, Roos, and Bowers scored three points each; and Hatridge scored two points in the fourth.

The win improves Salem’s record to 11-7 on the season.

Licking 56, Salem 52: Salem dropped a decision to Licking in the Lady Cat Classic at Salem.

Licking took a 17-13 lead after the first period. The Lady Tigers roared back in the second period, outscoring the Licking Lady Wildcats 19-7 in the period to enter halftime up 32-24.

However, Licking rallied in the second half, outscoring Salem 16-10 in each quarter.

Four Licking players scored in double figures, led by junior Winter Murray with 18 points.

The Lady Tigers were to be in action with two SCA home games this week, Monday against Mountain View Liberty and Thursday against Mountain Grove. Salem is 2-1 in the SCA.
